Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) announced the start of the Congressional Art Competition for high school students who reside in Washington’s Third District.

9th through 12th grade students are invited to submit one piece of original artwork to the competition for a chance to have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and on the Congressional Art Competition website. In addition, the first-place winner will win two paid round-trip plane tickets to the Congressional Art Competition National Reception in Washington, D.C. on June 27, 2024.

Students have from now until April 29 at 11:59 PM PT to enter. The winning artwork will be selected by a panel of Southwest Washington arts leaders.

Submissions must be the work of a single student, no larger than 26”x26” when framed, and original in concept, design, and execution. Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, photographs, and mixed media will be accepted, but artwork may not be computer- or AI-generated.

Students can learn more about entry requirements and submit their artwork here.

“The tunnel to the U.S. Capitol is lined by winning artwork from across our country, and hundreds of visitors and lawmakers get to walk past it each day. This competition is an opportunity to represent Southwest Washington with pride and exhibit the talent of our local students,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “I’m excited to see the creativity of this year’s submissions, and thank you to all of our arts educators empowering the next generation.”
