Gluesenkamp Perez Helps Secure $40.4M to Eliminate Traffic-Blocking Rail Crossing in Washougal
Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) announced that the City of Washougal will receive a $40.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for the design and construction of the 32nd Street Underpass Project.
The project will reconnect the Addy Street neighborhood to the city’s downtown and port areas and include the reconstruction of five key intersections along 32nd Street, and a new railroad bridge and underpass structure.
“People who live in Washougal and the surrounding areas, including me and my family, know just how bad the traffic can get when a train blocks the 32nd Street railroad crossing,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “I’m so proud to have helped secure this massive investment in Washougal’s infrastructure that will cut down on road traffic, move freight more efficiently, and make surrounding pedestrian walkways safer.”
In April, Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez sent a letter to DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg in support of the City of Washougal’s grant funding application.
