WASHINGTON, DC – This week, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) cosponsored bipartisan legislation that would ensure full funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the government shutdown and retroactively cover any missed payments caused by the shutdown so far.

Over 133,000 residents – adults and children – of Washington’s Third District are beneficiaries of SNAP.

Families working hard to put food on the table are getting caught in the middle of a Washington, D.C. pissing contest. Politicians shouldn’t be playing chicken with folks’ food security. Enough,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “This bill should never have been necessary in the first place. The best way to make sure that our communities get the food they need is for Congress to get back to work and reopen the government.”
