Gluesenkamp Perez Leads Blue Dog Coalition Letter Urging House Leadership to Renew the Select Committee on the CCP
Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) led a letter with members of the Blue Dog Coalition urging House Leadership to prioritize the renewal of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party in the 119th Congress.
“The relationship between the United States and China is one of the most consequential in the geopolitical world. While there is room for cooperation, we cannot ignore increasingly adversarial actions taken by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP),” wrote the lawmakers. “A history of human rights abuses, aggressive defense policy, and combative trade policy directly affects Americans and should not be left unaddressed. In the face of these challenges, there is a growing and critical need for firm, strategic, and bipartisan policy solutions.”
Fellow Blue Dog Coalition Co-Chairs Jared Golden (ME-02) and Mary Peltola (AK-AL), as well as Reps. Mike Thompson (CA-04), Sanford Bishop (GA-02), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34), and Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), joined Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez in sending the letter.
“While the CCP would like us to be fractured in the face of their attacks on our networks and international provocations, the Select Committee has responded with a bipartisan strategy that confronts these and other challenges in a serious and responsible manner,” continued the lawmakers. “We urge leaders from both sides of the aisle to enable Congress to build upon that momentum. By coming together and working across party lines to hold the CCP accountable, America’s economy, America’s values, and the American people benefit.”
