Yesterday, Fix the Debt, a project of the nonpartisan, non-profit Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget recognized Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) as a 2024 Fiscal Hero for her work to improve our nation’s fiscal trajectory.

Fiscal Heroes are awarded each Congress to recognize policymakers working to put our country on a sustainable fiscal path. According to Fix the Debt, selected lawmakers have pushed their party leaders to make addressing debt a priority, taken responsible votes, used their town hall meetings to engage constituents, advocated to keep tough choices on the table, and introduced legislation to improve the budget process and the nation’s fiscal position.

Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez has led bipartisan efforts to take on the national debt and has repeatedly called on her colleagues to work toward fiscal stability. Earlier this year, she introduced the bipartisan Comprehensive Congressional Budget Act to create a more efficient and effective process for Congress to determine our nation’s spending and revenue.

In March, the Congresswoman’s bipartisan FULL Act passed the House to cut wasteful spending on unused government office space. She also cosponsored the Fiscal State of the Nation Act to enhance transparency into federal spending and help safeguard our nation’s long-term fiscal health.

“Our national debt is a real, growing problem, affects our economy, and has been overlooked by Congress for too long,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “To avoid passing on more debt to our children, I’ll keep working with my bipartisan colleagues on commonsense efforts to cut government waste, reduce our deficit, and be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

“Fiscal responsibility is a stewardship, not only for Americans today but for generations of Americans to come. We applaud this year’s Fiscal Heroes, including Representative Gluesenkamp Perez, for having the courage to prioritize our fiscal health and work towards achieving a more sustainable debt trajectory,” said Maya MacGuineas, President of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. “Through legislation, speeches, engagement back home, and tough political decisions, these Members of Congress have distinguished themselves as leaders on these key issues, and we are honored to recognize and applaud them for their efforts. We look forward to seeing how these Fiscal Heroes will build on the momentum in the past year to make even greater strides going forward.”
