Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) joined her colleagues in introducing the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, a bipartisan proposal to protect workers’ right to come together and bargain for higher wages, better benefits, and safer workplaces.

Despite growing support for unions, decades of anti-union attacks have made it harder for workers to organize. Union membership has fallen to a new low of 10.1 percent in 2022

The PRO Act, named in honor of the late AFL–CIO President Richard L. Trumka, protects the right to join a union by:

  • Empowering workers to exercise their right to organize,
  • Holding employers accountable for violating workers’ rights; and
  • Securing free, fair, and safe union elections.

“Working people are the backbone of the middle class and the entire country. It’s essential that these heroes can fight for better wages and working conditions without fear of retaliation or losing their jobs altogether,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “The PRO Act cracks down on union-busting by wealthy corporations and CEOs while strengthening protections for workers everywhere, and I’m proud to join my colleagues in this bipartisan effort.”

A section-by-section summary of the PRO Act can be found here.
