Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez Named to House Committee on Agriculture
Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) was selected to serve on the prestigious House Committee on Agriculture for the 118th Congress.
The Committee oversees policy on domestic agriculture and specialty crops, the U.S. Forest Service, rural development, rural broadband, and more. Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez and the Committee will also be responsible for renewing the Farm Bill this year – a legislative package that reauthorizes agricultural and food programs for five years. The 2018 Farm Bill will expire at the end of Fiscal Year 2023.
“I live in rural America – I get my internet from a radio tower and water from a well, and I heat my house with wood. I know firsthand the challenges facing Southwest Washington’s rural and agricultural communities because I live them,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “I’m excited to work in a bipartisan way as a member of the House Agriculture Committee to make sure the voices of Southwest Washington’s farmers, producers, agricultural workers, and rural residents are heard in the upcoming Farm Bill and beyond. We’re going to rebuild jobs in the woods and support our cranberry growers, fishermen, and loggers.”
